# What does redemption mean?


### **Recovering a Domain in Redemption**

If a domain is not renewed within **30 days of its expiration date**, it is **removed from the central registry** (managed by VeriSign for .com, .net, and .org domains) and enters a **30-day Redemption Grace Period**. During this time, the domain is no longer active and is at risk of being permanently deleted.

However, domains in this state **can still be recovered** — but it requires a special restoration process.

#### **How to Recover a Domain in Redemption**

Registrars are allowed to restore domains during the Redemption period for a **recovery fee**. This service is typically used as a **last-resort option** if a domain was not renewed before the standard expiration grace period ended.

* **Plus Renewal**: Add the cost of a the domain renewal term ($24.95/year you can add between 1-5 years)
    
* **Processing Time**: Up to 3 business days
